Charlie's Scars

This award winning film tells the story of Charlie Petrizzo, a survivor of two tragic accidents that should have taken his life, why he decided to leave a high paying corporate job and what led him to start a service dog organization(Project2Heal) to help special needs children. While the film was supposed to focus solely on Charlie's life and work, during filming the story unexpectedly collides with the story of Melinda Loveless, the ringleader and one of four teenage girls ( Laurie Tackett, Hope Rippey, Toni Lawrence) charged with the 1992 torture and murder of Shanda Sharer. That murder became the subject of a New York TImes Best Seller entitled Cruel Sacrifice and a second book entitled Little Lost Angel, The Shanda Sharer Story. Charlie gets the first interviews ever since the conviction of Melinda Loveless who is currently serving 60 years as an inmate at the Indiana Women's Prison. Why did Melinda Loveless grant him the interviews and what did she have to say speaking for the first time publicly nearly 22 years after the murder? Charlie then tracks down Jacque Vaught, the mother of Shanda Sharer, asking her if she will allow him to meet her and show her the interviews he has conducted with Loveless. What happens when the mother of a child that was brutally murdered is approached by a man she does not know with a request to show her interviews of her daughter's killer?
